A friend in high school's father was the personnel director of the Corvette plant when it was in St. Louis. I got to tour the plant many times from 1954 until it was relocated to Bowling Green, KY and I can testify that it definitely was not state of the art even back then. The painters were not required to bend over to catch the bottom lip on the bodies so they never got painted...to this day that area is still unpainted on my 61.

Interesting. I suspect that all those painters had lung problems in later life. This actually reminds me of a visit I made years ago to the Morgan factory....All hand labour!
