What are you doing today?

Kelly and I have been working around the house. I've been smoking some ribs on the grill. We'll probably drop some off to an older couple near us who are having a hard time getting out.

I've found my days have become quite a bit busier while everyone is more or less locked down. Keeping in touch with our congregation has been time-consuming. But I'm also finding out that some quality one on one time with people, on the phone or on facetime, is sweet and encouraging. We have a group of really good folks and they're all reaching out to each other and doing what they can to help others. It makes my job easier.

We keep in touch with our leadership team by meeting online using a conference program called "Zoom." Others are using facetime on facebook, Skype or Google Hangouts. They're all free and easy to use. It's not the same as seeing someone in person but it works given out current circumstances.

I've been in touch with a disaster relief ministry further south of us. They sent a semi-load of household goods, snacks, and drinks (5 tons!). We've assembled a team of people to get these goods out into the community to those who need them but can't fight the crowds at the grocery stores.

There's a lot of good stuff going on out there in a dark time. It's good to see people stepping to the plate and working together!

We braved the grocery store and I went for a walk in one of our still open county parks. Not bad.

My day has beens quiet. For the second day in a row, it has been warm (about 70) and dry (for a pleasant change) here in the southern Appalachians. I've had the pleasure of working in the yard, mowing the lawn for the first time this spring, putting out a few flowers for my wife, enjoying spring blooms, spreading a little fertilizer in spots I skipped last month, checked on the promise of early azaleas, and mostly enjoying myself. I get tired rather quickly, so at breaks I sat down at the computer, read Forum 43 and the Lounge, and today I opened an old net friend (the View from My Chair) and read a most inspiring essay on living through this period. Good writing, John! Now, as evening is approaching, I think I'll sit back and read for a while, a John Sandford novel ( I like Virgil Flowers!)
Sounds like I've had a pretty good day, but you noticed that there was virtually no social interaction? My dear wife still puts up with me, and for that I give thanks.

Had to make a food run to a nearby greengrocer. Picked up what we needed, hopefully nothing extra.

Watching "Lillyhammer" series on Netflix...omg, what a zoo! MeTV as well.

My hip replacement surgery was cancelled with one day to go (which I understand) so unfortunately I can't get about all that well. Not sure how many months I will have to wait now...frustrating. I have been doing all the cooking, which I really enjoy, as my wife is still extremely busy at her work. My model collection and this Forum are a very positive place to spend time daily as well. I do what I can, hang out with my dog Otis and try to focus on how lucky I am considering the times we are living in right now. Most people in the world have very little so I can't complain.

Reminds me of Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer).
