I've run out of gas once in my lifetime, it was just after I got my 1st Mark IV, I didn't know the gas tank was a quarter tank off. Since I drive a F150 and filling up can be a painful ordeal if allowed to fall to low, I usually fill it at 1/2 tank or slightly above.

I have a friend of 50 years who had multiple stories about her father running out of gas. He was a character, but I could never be that cavalier.
