I may have posted this before  but I am rather forgetful now days ! Anyway, it is a ticket that was in my Dad's files for the International Automobile Show in New York in 1964. About this time, both the Ford Mustang and Studebaker Avanti were released for sale to the public, but I am not sure either Automobile was shown at the show.

Mike, the Mustang debuted at the World's Fair on April 17, so it missed the Auto Show by a few days. The Avanti was introduced at the NY Auto Show in '62.

Thanks ! I understand the Avanti was announced and maybe a test vehicle was seen as early as 1962, but obviously it seems production cars weren't available to the public until much later, circa 1964.

There was an early production or perhaps prototype Avanti from South Bend briefly at our house in the summer of one of those years and it looked like a spaceship when I sat in it !

The Chicago Auto Show public introduction was at the Studebaker exhibit in early 1964 and Dad was at their exhibit for that event. Somewhere I have a photograph of that !

Loved going to the New York Automobile Show at the Coliseum and more recently at the Javits Center.

They were certainly major events for automobile manufacturers and the public. I think the biggest American car shows back then were Chicago, New York, Detroit and Los Angeles. There were many others too, as well as custom and hot rod type shows, like those in Las Vegas, etc.
