It's probably fair to say that you possess the most unique 1/18 vintage drag race collection in North America. That coffee-table display could (and should! ) be a museum attraction. Just an incredible effort fueled by passion thicker than Aunt Edna's jam! 😏

- Question about Hemi Under Glass: A good friend   once explained that drag wheel & tire combinations were changed so often that pretty much and configuration could easily be historically accurate.

- Practically every picture I see has that Hurst 'Cuda with chrome 5-spoke Cragars (not Hurst wheels ).  In fact, HW 61 has released this model with those rims.

- Q: When introduced, what rims were actually on Hemi Under Glass?

@chris - When the Hurst Hemi Under Glass was first built and run, it featured the steelies at the rear and Hurst wheels at the front.  That only makes sense since the car was owned and sponsored by Hurst.

WOW....what an awesome collection!  My fave is a tie between the  Sox & Martin '71 Cuda and the Tasca Mustang.

@jack-dodds I don't know if you or anyone else noticed it but on the Sox and Martin 1971 Cuda the front tires instead of having Drag 500 on them have Ronnie Sox instead. That was done as part of the tribute to Ronnie Sox if I remember right.

A little information on the Hemi Under Glass: A series of the Hurst Hemi Under Glass were campaigned severally in exhibition drag racing by Hurst Performance between 1965 and 1975. These wheel standers were built based on the current Plymouth Barracuda for the corresponding model year. Notably, when the cars get damaged or too old for racing, the company manufactures newer examples - sometimes through the parts of older versions. By Bob Riggle's account, a total of nine units of the Plymouth Barracuda Hurst Hemi Under Glass have been produced since the car's inception.

Where are they? The first-ever Hurst Hemi Under Glass campaigned in the 1965 season no longer exists. Its powertrain and parts were used to produce the new Barracuda chassis/body style for the 1967 version driven by Bob Riggle. The car later got sold for $300,000 dollars at the 2014 Mecum auction. Furthermore, the car that got more famous for the Jay Leno and Bob Riggle rollover was rebuilt and sold to popular Hurst vehicles collector Joe Spagnoli. The remaining examples are believed to be in the hands of different collectors.

Accidents: Bill Shrewsberry's relatively short stint as driver had no records of major incidents. The same could've been said of Riggle who campaigned the Hurst Hemi Under Glass for several years without any major problem as well but had a career-ending accident in 1974 at the US 30 dragstrip in Indiana. Also, while shooting an episode of Jay Leno's Garage in 2016, Riggle with Leno riding shotgun rolled a 1969 Hemi Under Glass, extensively damaging the car's body.

Contrarily to what racing enthusiasts might think, the Plymouth Barracuda Hurst Hemi Under Glass wasn't intentionally designed to do wheelies. Initially, this was a huge problem for Hurst, however, the fans loved it, leading to the birth of the most watched series of crowd pleasing wheel standers in drag racing history.

Some photos of the cars in action, notice the different year Bodie styles and in the second photo the car has steel rims on the rear.
