This post in my Brooklin in Illinois Series features the NB Center 1963 Buick Riviera in white (NBC234W). The background shows some buildings along North Michigan Avenue, just north of Chicago's downtown. The yellow limestone building in the center is the Chicago Water Tower. It is a famous historical site for the city, since it survived the great fire of 1871.

Gorgeous model, gorgeous setting, great photo.
I don't think too many '63 Rivieras were riding around on blackwall tires...

Great looking 1963 Buick Riveria ! This one is terrific in any configuration and here it is in a scenic setting near a Chicago landmark.
Right now, I only have this era Riviera in 1/18 scale but it certainly would also be a fine addition in 1/43 scale, too.
The Riv must be a few years old in that photo - the Hancock (on the right with the cross hatching) was finished in 1969! Great photo! I've walked that sidewalk many times!
Loving the photo and the '63 Riv.

Whitewalls or not, Brooklin hit a home run with that model and, Ed, you could issue a calendar with your Illinois-themed Brooklin photography and I'd buy one in a heartbeat! And I'm not from that state!
Mike, Franklin Mint made one in their "Cars of the 60's series. Large gaps in opening parts, however not a bad model.
Thanks for that Franklin Mint heads up ! Sounds like it would be a very cool replica. I have their neat 1952 DeSoto in 1/43 with opening panels. Although it may have large gaps in opening doors, it is still an exceptionally nice diecast and I really like it a lot.
I remember the water tower well as I went through basic training and hospital corps school at Great Lakes Training Center in 1960. Ed, I love your Chicago based pictures a lot.

Here's a nicely done white metal '63 Riviera by "Mini-Marque" which you might be able to find at a bargain price (as I did). I believe it's available in other colors as well.

Yes, people do get upset by the panel gaps on the FM models, but it really doesn't bother me too much and I think the Riviera looks quite nice. Thanks for that Franklin Mint heads up ! And of course you can display it to good effect with the opening parts open, so the gaps don't matter any more!
