Greetings, elderly lounge lizards of the Northern Hemisphere.
Another cold, dull November day. You are struggling to extract enough warmth from the sun's feeble rays to kick-start the metabolism and loosen the creaky joints, and the hibernation instinct is coursing strongly through your veins. Did you hear a little voice in your head this morning saying "Get out of bed, you lazy old so-and-so? And another little voice replying "Ach, why bother?"
I bring you a small message of hope and encouragement.
You may vaguely recall (or may have mercifully forgotten) that about a year ago I posted my rather noisy hymn of defiance to the passing years ("Ain't Too Old to Rock").
But I recently decided that maybe I needed a more sedate, low-key way of saying "Hey, I'm still in business."
So here it is. "Slow Rider". If the words don't make an awful lot of sense, well, nobody said they have to. But you may take some inspiration from the underlying sentiment. Three minutes and eight seconds that could transform your dwindling self-image forever. Or not.
p.s. And before you ask, yes, I have seen Clint Eastwood's "Pale Rider". I think it must have been lurking somewhere in my subconscious when I put this together, although it didn't actually dawn on me until afterwards.
I LIKE it! I identify with the clippety-clop sounds. Sort of dovetails with a discussion we had the other day about driving. I said that I am much slower today than ever. So I'll change the word slightly in your song and submit, "I'm a slow driver; but I'll get there!"
I enjoyed that. I move a little slower but yeah, I get there. I generally get my 5 mile walk in every morning. I love the beautiful sunrises on most days and the peacefulness of the early morning.
Maybe I am not as old as the rest of you, but I jump out of bed every morning usually before my alarm goes off, and my stride is faster than most 40 year olds. So I am grateful for what I have and love everyday of my life.

@carsman1958 That's great. After all the years I worked, I'm only 63 and was blessed enough to be able to retire early. I'm still generally up around 5-5:30. Also, no alarm, lol. I walk every day, weather permitting, plus bike most days during warm months. I enjoy being active. I also like restoring antique furniture, Remodeling projects, building model cars, etc. I try to keep busy, but at my own pace. Not someone else's.......... excluding the missus of course. She cracks that whip pretty hard sometimes, lol.😲🤣😂
@geno I get up about the same time. I am 67, still working full time. I love my job, so I do not think about retirement yet. Exercise for me is walking the dog in the morning and then getting in and out of my car 15 times a day at least visiting clients. As you know I love building models as well, not to your expertise though. Do a lot of yard work and working on my 67 Ford F100, plus all the kids/wife's cars. I think our fleet is up around 11 now. So I am continuously busy and only sit down around 9pm to watch a show with the wife.
Well goodness me, I may just have wasted three or four days of my creative life knocking together a little tune intended to bolster the self-esteem of the less youthful members of the collecting fraternity, only to learn that you are all so goddam fit and active and self-confident (and breeding like rabbits, apparently) that I needn't have bothered.
The only time I get up at 5 a.m. is to go to the toilet half-way through my sleep cycle.
So you don't need any inspirational "Thought For The Day" messages from me - but here is another one anyway.
By the way, I only have 2 daughters, 1 grandchild and one car (a 21 year old Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 with peeling paint and moss growing around the window frames) so I'm not in the same league as you guys.
Oh, and I just turned 83 at the end of September. But I'm in better shape than some folks who are twice my age.

Now that's funny as hell - I appreciate that humor, better shape than folks twice your age (That's a riot - 166) I guess so. and the photo. Both - ACES!
Well done sir. Happy belated birthday Graeme! God bless you!
