From the http://www...

The 1940 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS (Super Sport) is a highly coveted classic grand tourer known for its blend of performance and elegant, custom coachwork by designers like Touring and Pinin Farina. Only a handful were built before World War II disrupted production, making surviving examples extremely rare and valuable.

Specifications
The 6C 2500 SS was the most potent version of the 6C 2500 series, built on a shortened chassis for improved agility and sporting performance.

Attribute  Detail
Engine 2.4-liter (2443 cc) inline-six, dual overhead camshafts (DOHC)
Power Around 110 horsepower (bhp) with triple Weber carburetors
Chassis Steel ladder frame, Super Sport (SS) variant used the shortest wheelbase (approx. 2.7 meters / 106 inches)
Suspension Fully independent: twin trailing arms and coil springs at the front, swing axles and torsion bars at the rear
Brakes Hydraulically actuated drum brakes on all four wheels
Top Speed Approximately 170 km/h (106 mph)
Body/Frame Aluminum body over steel tube frame (common for coachbuilt versions)

History and Collectibility
Introduced in 1939, the 6C 2500 SS represented the pinnacle of Alfa Romeo's pre-war engineering, though its production was significantly impacted by WWII. Most of these cars were delivered as a rolling chassis to bespoke coachbuilders, such as Touring Superleggera, Pinin Farina, and Graber, who crafted unique bodies for wealthy clients.
  • Rarity: Few were made before the war, and some of the competition versions (known internally as Tipo 256) did not survive in their original condition.
  • Racing Heritage: The model performed well in endurance events, winning the 1939 Tobrouk-Tripoli road rally, with a later post-war competition version performing well in the Mille Miglia.
  • High Value: Due to their historical significance, elegant design, and rarity, surviving examples are highly sought after by collectors, with prices often ranging from several hundred thousand to over a million USD, depending on provenance and condition.

Current Market
As a very rare classic car, finding one for sale usually involves specialist classic car dealers and high-end auctions. An average sale price for an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 is approximately $446,471. A 1940 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Recarrozzata Prototipo Aerodynamica, for example, was recently listed for €485,000 on Dyler.com.

Thanks John. A superb hand built prewar performance car with looks that predate the Jaguar XK 120.

WOW'sers! I want that car and I want it NOW! That thing is seriously beautiful !

It has elements of other styling in it - Jag xk, a Talbot-inspired tail, but altogether its own identity. I want one for Christmas.

SANTA! Are you listening? Santa!!

Timing was rotten with WWIi started but definitely see the design influence being passed on to Jaguar. Interesting article. Thanks John.
