Once again I see this comparison as being between two different classes of cars, which makes it quite challenging ...but interesting.  There are pluses for both and I like them both very much; in fact the '55 is my fave year of T-Bird (tied with the '63).  Once again it boiled down to which car I would be most happy to have in my garage to be my weekend driver and the Thunderbird came out the winner.

Thanx John, I also choose the ‘Tweety Bird Yellow’ Thunderbird. Both are nice but the TB’s style and convertible roof seal the deal.

T-bird please, loved it.  Studebaker just looked strange to me.

I love the baby T-birds.  I would have voted a tie, but I don't like the Studebaker's grill and front bumper

My favorite T-bird.  It looks great in any color.  I go to a car show in Rockville every year and there are T-Birds (55-57) of almost any color there and they all look great.
the Studebaker grill is odd. I like the rest of the car. I think they could have done better.

No denying (now) the attractive allure of the Commander. But I have a tendency to judge my fascination of cars back then, through the prism of our group. We were the Bells Corner Boys - a gathering of about 12 to 16 car-crazy guys who lived, breathed and thought about little other than automobiles. Back then we car nuts associated a Studebaker, ANY Studebaker, with old men. We associated the T-Bird's baby birds with COOL.

Still do, T-Bird please John. GREAT Comparo today sir!!

Piling on for the Thunderbird. It's so pretty, while the Studebaker is losing its looks.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

This is a no brainer for me as I owned a Goldenrod Yellow 55 Thunderbird exactly like the DM model Tony has shown including the wire wheel covers. I traded it to my dentist for the 55 Imperial that still sits in my garage. I loved that bird but with my bad  back it was hard to get into and out of, and the Imperial was like stepping into a ball room, besides I also had my 61 Vette which was also difficult to get in and out of. As has been said, the Studebaker is nice but the grill is way too busy. Thunderbird.

I really like both and had a hard time with this one. I finally picked the Studebaker, mainly because a good but now dead friend had them and loved them so much.

Of course the Baby Bird steals the show and in Goldenrod Yellow the poor Studebaker never had a chance. My pick is the Studebaker, sure the bumper and grille leave a lot to be desired but I see this liability as part of its charm.

Gents thanks for your replies.

@sizedoesmatter John; I don't know what Studebaker could have done to improve upon the beautiful '53 grille styling but unfortunately this '55 edition falls short.

Jack, not all cars are going to be gorgeous, accept it for what it is...some people liked it and purchased it...what does that tell you.
