@georgeschire You are 100% correct, most people. One of the reasons I dislike most buicks. Add to the grill the big check mark the side trim makes on some, and the sound their straight 8 made with the dynaflow. plus the way they handled turned me off. That was late '40's models I got to ride in back in the late '50's made me a Buick disliker. I have the same problem with the DeSotos and the toothy grin or even Jeeps. I prefer grills horizontal. Just doesn't seem right to me vertical.
This is the nice thing about America. We can all have our opinions and we can all express them. No one is right or wrong. For everyone that loves a certain car, there's another that will hate it. That's makes our enjoyment of cars fun. With regard to your comment about the DeSoto toothy grill, that grill is the primary reason I think those DeSoto's were so beautiful. The '41 and '49 were two of real favorites. The grill does it for me!

I agree and do love the difference in peoples opinions and have been swayed by quite a few. I love the toothless grilled DeSoto's;
There is one vertical DeSoto I appreciate the '42:
I love the '56 DeSoto, but was disappointed when the "toothy grill" was no more. That "toothy grill" (for me anyway) was what all DeSoto's unique cars and certainly let you know it was a DeSoto. Their trademark so to speak.
