Ford for me. I like the body design and engine much more.

Pretty darn close to a toss-up. But, by the slimmest of margins, I am going with the Ford. I like the lower hood styling and upright stance of the windshield a bit more than Chevy.
Like both but Ford for the motor. Chevies in the forties had that vacuum shift that became an option in 1939 and standard through 1948. The vacuum shift couldn't be shifted quickly and was very unpopular with young guys. That plus the 216 CI six made Chevies real slugs.
My vote goes to the Ford. Style-wise, to my eyes, they are very similar. By this time, woodies were more of a statement than anything else. As wagons, they were functional. But they required a lot of maintenance, were expensive, very heavy, and very noisy just going down the road. Still, they were beautiful and displayed some very fine craftsmanship.

Don't care for woodies or station wagons.

You're spot-on with everything you say here John! At speed, especially, the wood creaked and squeaked and was, for some owners, part of the charm of the woody. For others, not so much.
Going with the Ford here on a close call.

Both are very attractive, if sometimes upkeep intensive, station wagons. The look, if not the actual use of wood, lasted for many decades. I have a very nice 1/18th diecast of a 1948 Chevrolet woody station wagon.
Tough call...going with the Ford this time.
