Both all-new for 1949, and standing alone, each looks the part of a high-end automobile. But compared side-by-side, Buick is the clear winner. The '49 Buick is one of the all-time styling greats!

Top-notch comparo today, John!

Coming off the glitz and glamour of the 1948 models, the '49 New Yorker's styling took a hit. It reverted back to the forties, in my view, instead of leaping forward to the upcoming fifties as the Roadmaster did. Look at that long and graceful hood, the aggressive grille and jet-like portholes. The long slooping ponton rear fenders show up those of the Chrysler. Buick all the way here John!

Buick for it's toothy grill.  Otherwise I would have gone with a tie.

Both are gorgeous, but I'll go out on a limb and pick the Chrysler. It just looks better to my eyes. But that's just me.😁🤪

I voted tie.  I like both the Buick for its styling and the Chrysler which looks more formal.

Both are nice but the Buick is nicer. The new for 1949 Port Holes become a styling feature that will last through 1957 and the toothy grill continues from the early forties and both work well with the new sheet metal. Buick.

Thanks Tony for listing all the things I dislike about the Buick. I agree about the Chrysler, I have absolutely NO interest in either one. Give me a Hudson please.

I’m with Geno on this one. The Chrysler looks a bit more staid but it also exudes class. Somehow I never took to that Buick.
