Mercury and Olds are just about equal, but I really like the Mercury a tad more.  The DeSoto seems outdated, and it was brand new.  (Sorry that I confused the DeSoto with a Dodge.  Kinda tired, I guess.)

Three of my favorite cars.  Love all, but love the DESOTO more.  That waterfall grill has always made me want one.  To my eyes, the DESOTO looks new while the other two look old, dated, and stodgy.

Tough to beat the 49 Merc but that Olds comes close.

Mercury styling in '49 was the best of that 3 year body style run.  It wins by a nose over the beautiful Olds.  The DeSoto looks dated by comparison.

As much as I like the Mercury, that Olds is so smooth. It wins.

Plus it's red.

For me it's the Oldsmobile for the cleanest styling. The Mercury is a close second. The DeSoto is a distant third with its outdated look.

    Mercury= 276,000 in all series;  convertibles- 17,000

    DeSoto= 95,051 in all series;  3,385 convertibles

Mercury out front, Oldsmobile a distant 2nd, and while I love the DeSoto, compared to the other two, it does look stodgy and outdated.
