The Cadillac is head and shoulders above the others. It really was the standard of the world in 1949.

Also, I see you're an early bird like me! Thanks again for these polls.

Well done! I have to admit that Lincoln is growing on me, particularly in convertible guise. For now, the Caddy comes in first, with the Lincoln a close second and the other two somewhere in the distance. Neither the Packards nor the Chryslers of that era are a draw for me.

Packard for sentimental reasons but not much interest in the rest. As usual, all these are too large and bulky for my current tastes. Thanks John.

Lincoln !  I'm reminded of a memorable quote, (sadly too long ago to remember its originator): "Postwar values were made manifest in chrome and steel".

The beautiful Cadillac styling is so much more modern looking; it wins this one easily.  Packard second, Chrysler third and Lincoln fourth; but they are far behind the Caddy.

I looked and I voted without hesitation, immediately in this order:

1) LINCOLN: It is the sleekest appearing of the four and I've always loved those interesting, sort of inverted headlights.  And it's got enough of the '49 Mercury look to it to win me over.  Not to mention, it's the only one of the four that doesn't have the old looking "split-windshield".

2) CADILLAC: Though bulbous, it is in a good way.  And certainly in hindsight, a glimpse of they eventual styling that would give the most gorgeous Caddy of the fifties decade, the '56.

3) CHRYSLER: To my eyes it appears frumpy and bulky.  In convertible form, it doesn't give a look of fun to me, but rather a car that doesn't have a top.

4) PACKARD: Now this is bulbous to the point of just appearing to be an elephant with wheels under it.  Sorry!  It could be compared to any '49 and it would still be in last place based on appearance for me.

The above comments/opinions shared, I'd add all four in a heartbeat in 1:24 scale to my shelves!

For me, the Packard nose is a nose ahead of the Lincoln, than Cadillac, then the Chrysler.

They were so close I had to look at other pics:

18b 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Sport Sedan a Alex Nunez
1949 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe DeVille 21
1948 Packard Sper eight Victoria 1

Lincoln with the Caddy an extreme close second and the Packard a distant third and the Chrysler not even in the running.

Three of them are drop-dead gorgeous, one is not. Those three are so close, it's hard for me to choose #1.

Now as I look at these a 2nd time and taking advantage of the additional photos posted, I going to vote in this order, Packard, Lincoln, Cadillac and then way in last, that poor Chrysler.

@brush That Chrysler is not a '49. Pretty sure it's a '48, completely different body style.

Barry, I recall reading somewhere that Chrysler was late releasing the new '49s, so the sold leftover '48s as '49s. I feel for the unsuspecting buyer who purchased the left over '48 as an early issue '49. If it were me, I'd be out for blood.

You're right, John, I had forgotten that! The leftover '48 body style was called the 1949 First Series.

My apologies to Brush as well.
