Ugly nose but that DeSoto is none the less impressive.
Just look at the Desoto grill it looks like it is ready to roar like a lion. The Olds looks like it is going to cry.
Agreed. I thought the nose looked perspectively altered by the camera's angle. Another shot from a more accurate lens:Ugly nose but that DeSoto is none the less impressive.
DeSoto for the win for me too.
I thought I'd vote for the Oldsmobile, but the DeSoto wins for its grille and overall presence.

I vote a rare TIE! Both are two of my favorite '53's. The Grills on both really do it for me, and both were trademarks of each brand for many years.
When DeSoto gave up their "toothy" Grill in '56, I was disappointed and when Oldsmobile gave up their "crying" Grill after '55, that too, was disappointing.

@perrone1 Thanks for the pic Tony; it changed my "tie" to a vote for the DeSoto....but it was close!
@car224 Yes the '53 Olds "face" always appeared sad looking to me. I like the '54 and '55 much more.....lukewarm on the '56.
@jack-dodds I think 54 has sad grill, 55 looks like it may break a smile and 56 looks puzzled like O!
Both are such lovely convertibles that would be a thrill to be driving around in back in 1954 or now days for that matter. I happily have some scale replicas that are representative of each of these eras of these automobiles.
As much as I'm a MOPAR kinda guy, the Oldsmobile looks MUCH better to me today!
