Mercury for me. It just looks more modern with its styling especially in the front hood / fenders and along the sides.
The 1953 is my favorite Mercury of that decade. I much prefer its styling over the second place Olds and third place DeSoto; which are also attractive cars.
I'm going for the DeSoto here, mainly through in-law family ownership. Next is the Mercury which I like very much. The Oldsmobile comes last of this grouping but is still desirable.
Merc followed by DeSoto. Always felt the Olds looked kinda grumpy.

I just about never vote "tie" but all 3 have so much to love about each of them...I just can't decide!

Damn! This one is tough! I like each of them for their own reasons. The DeSoto for the GRILL, it's a killer and one of my favorites of the decade. The Oldsmobile for the styling, color, and the fact that an uncle had one identical to this one in 1955. And I like the Mercury grill a lot too. It makes the car look customized. Now if it were a '54 instead of a '53, I'd go with it as my number one because I like the taillights on the '54 better.
SO OKAY SCHIRE, vote already! Alright, alright, here goes: 1) OLDSMOBILE 2) MERCURY 3) DESOTO. But I caution you, it's a moving target.

Same. Olds second.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I said in my voting above that (my vote) was a moving target, puts me closer to saying my vote is a "tie", which I also don't like doing. But these three '53's all have so much to like.

The Olds looks so frumpy to me with its front end styling.
I find it ugly compared to the Mercury.
Mercury, Oldsmobile and DeSoto by the smallest of margins.
