I do not like the nose on the Buick, so Mercury get's my vote on this pairing.
Maybe it’s the photo but the Mercury looks heavy so I went with the Buick
Dang; this is taking too much time. This one is difficult John. And kudos once again on picking two toughies and WITH matching colors.
I like the color breaks better on the Buick. I like the color placements better on the Merc - lighter color on top, darker on bottom. The Merc looks more modern and fresh.
It comes down to which I'd rather own and drive. I'm going with the Montclair.
There is something "Special" about the Buick. I prefer the side trim and dash board on the Buick although either would be welcome in my garage. Buick.
Buick, my favorite of the 50s.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Merc for me as well, I love the bodystyle of the 55/56.😊
Mercury styling by a nose over the Buick. Reverse the order by the same margin if it was 1955.
This one was easy, but then it wasn't. I like both for different reasons. If it were two '55s, I'd be voting a tie, but it's a little different for these '56s. The Mercury looks "bulkier" than the Buick, but I like the Mercury's grill much better. Bottom line for this one, it comes down to the "dashboard", BUICK WINS!!!

I’m going with the Mercury Montclair. Better looks to me and I do remember how well it handled.
I'm surprised it's this close - I thought this would be an easy win for the Buick!

Really gorgeous Fifties automobiles ! In various scales, I am happy to have diecast replicas of each of these beautiful cars.
Compared MSRP base prices...the Mercury Montclair is $160 more than the Buick Special 2dr HT Rivera. To me the Mercury appears more sporty than the distinguished looking Buick. I'll pick the Buick and pocket $160 bucks.
Gents, thanks for your responses.
