John, your extensive knowledge of cars shows in the comparisons you make. In this case you made a difficult decision for me. The in your face Mercury brings back the fifties and the exciting times we had waiting for the new car ideas that the designers would give us each year. The Oldsmobile to me represents an elegantly designed automobile with smooth flowing lines. Tough decision but I have to go with the Oldsmobile.

I totally agree with Bob on the appreciation for your incredible comparisons, John! And I so appreciate your efforts in keeping us entertained, informed, engaged, in fun and learned daily choices.

However, I'm completely different than my dear friend Bob, in that I was not able to embrace the design of the Mercs of that era. The Olds, though, we agree on 100%.

If anyone here in the Lounge and here on the Forum's has to ask or wonder how I voted today, they've been living in a cave for the last couple of decades that I've been here.  Laughing Out Loud

I am all about the Mercury.  George sorry, just not a fan of the Olds.  The Mercury just stands out, probably because you just don't see a lot of them.  Even growing up as a kid in the 60's, I do not remember seeing many of them.  Mercury's to me were the middle step child between Ford's and Lincoln's.  For the people that could not afford the Lincoln, just bought a Ford and visa versa.

Mercury full-size:  Love the '56 & '61, like the '49 - '55 and '63 - '68, dislike the '57 - '60 and after '68.

Oldsmobile full-size: Love only one the '62, like the '57 & '63, don't care for the rest.

Today Olds no contest.

Interesting choice John. In my case, preference goes to the Mercury which to me just see ms a little trimmer.

Hey no problem.  We don't all like the same flavor of ice-cream.  Smile

Oldsmobile by a country mile.  Although the Mercury styling is more modern I never liked it at all 1957-'59.

I hope Oldsmobile gave their styling department a big bonus for 1957. That's the model year they did their best work. My favorite Olds, and the recipient of my vote today.
