The Buick just looks more luxurious.
While I really like the colour combination on that Buick, for a daily car, I prefer the Mercury.
Again, I never warmed to the eccentric look of the Monterey and I don't care for the add-on surfboard skirts. Aided (1) by the fact that we owned that same Buick, but in white with red interior, and (2) by those, sent-from-heaven wire wheels, I gotta vote Buick Special!
Neither, they are both butt ugly in my opinion.
I voted for the Mercury, but I agree with Brush.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I don't care for either car but give the nod to the flamboyant, somewhat garish Buick for its place in expression of the late 50s "excess" styling trend. This era of Mercury is unattractive to my eye and represents a low period for the otherwise traditionally very attractive Mercury styling.

+1!!
I give a slight edge to the less “garish” Mercury. I do like those wheels on the Buick. 👍😎

'58 wasn't a great styling year for either, but of the two, the Buick looks considerably better to me.

Beautiful automobiles, although 1958 was a recession year. We had a 1958 Bel-Air (and I had a 1/24 promo of it), one neighbor had a '58 Pontiac, and another neighbor on the other side had a 1958 Oldsmobile. So, we all did our part !
I'm not a fan of either but did choose the Buick only by a slight margin.... That margin being which one would I like to drive most.

Not a fan of the '58 Mercury, but the '58 Buick is gorgeous.
