All cars deserve a "look at me" beneath the spotlight, even if the vast majority dislike it.

Well said. And even though I wouldn't consider either of these cars to buy, I certainly can appreciate how much money and love has gone into both of them. Beats the devil out of the cars we see in Pete's Derelict Derby that we all also love so much as John's 'Which?'

GM's '58s were generally an exercise in bloated excess.    I am not a big fan of those cars but I never fail to acknowledge the sheer volume of chrome and stainless they carried, especially when viewing one in person.   Buick's Limited was a huge car and the production numbers for the convertible were less than 900 (a very small number for GM) so I gave it the nod today for both its rarity and audacity.

Side trim on the Buick goes in all directions…15 chrome slash marks on each side and more chrome covering the fender behind the rear tire is just too much; the Olds side trim at least all heads the same direction. I like the drive train better too.

Both are excessive, and that's how it was with GM in 1958. I prefer the Buick over the Oldsmobile.

I like each of these "GM Five For Fifty-Eight" automobiles. I have replicas of the Buick, Cadillac and Pontiac General Motors cars for that year. The are extravagant and unmistakable cars or models !

The Buick is awesome! All that chrome! All that excessive extravagance! That car makes a grand statement. I absolutely love it 😍
