Pontiac for me.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Both are nice looking but the eight lug wheels give the nod to the Pontiac.
Pontiac gets the nod by a large margin for me. From every perspective its styling is far better than the Mercury; which is my least favorite Merc of its decade.
Love the '61 Mercury, dislike the '62[rear view], like the'63.
Love the '61 thru '64 Pontiac. Today it is the '62 Pontiac.
At the time it was the Pontiac. Now, I like the lines of the Monterey better and those tail lights are certainly unique.
@moe-parr Oddly enough Barry it is the tail light shape that puts me off the most....lol. The '61 Dodge Polara is even more exaggerated in this regard....at least to my eye..
I love the taillights on the Mercury as well. But I'll go with the Pontiac for its overall design. Very classy!

Pontiac for me too. The Mercury is, IMO, too frumpy looking. I can picture a 40+yr old driving it while I picture a 30yr old "playboy" piloting the Poncho.

The Pontiac is impressive, the Mercury is not!
Gents, thanks for the responses!

@bob-jackman I think the '61 Polara tail lights are among the coolest-looking ones out there. However, they are not the most practical ....if you are driving close enough behind you will not see the one but not the other.
