Good looking and very strong mid-size muscle here ! I have a couple of 1/18 Mercurys circa 1966 and a friend of mine had a real 1:1 Dodge Coronet from that time.
Difficult choice but Dodge for the win.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Going with the Dodge today.
Mercury Cyclone for me please John. I rather like both but I have driven the Cyclone and it was a blast.
I chose the Dodge. If it was the Fairlane, that would have ben my choice. My younger brother had a Comet and I didn't care for it's looks compared to my Grandpa's Fairlane.
I love the Dodge since it's a Hemi. And I love the Merc since I owned a 1967 version of it; Mercury Cyclone GT.
And even though I had to wear the dam thing for most of my 45 working years, I'm going with a ........ TIE!
Merc for it's looks and Dodge for it's drive train. I would buy the Dodge and sell it and buy six Mercs.
One of the two '66 Coronets I owned. Both GREEN of course, both Coronet 440, the one in the picture was a 383 four speed the other a 225 slant six 3 on the tree. I totaled my '69 Coronet R/T and the interior went into the six cylinder '66. Love Coronets '66 to '70. I owned:
2- '66 both used GREEN
1- '67 new totaled black
2- '68 one new Super Bee GREEN other a 4 dr ex-police black I put the drive train out of the totaled '69 R/T 440 four speed 3:55 Dana
1- '69 R/T GREEN new totaled 440 four speed 3:55 Dana
1- '70 R/T burnt orange new leftover 440 auto 4:10
You would not believe the FUN I had with these cars, many good memories were made.
I much prefer the aggressive look and drive train of the Coronet in '66. The '67 Comet Cyclone was a much better looking car IMHO.
I like both, but a slight edge to the Merc for its better looks.
No contest, Mercury for me - although if I was buying a car in this range, it'd be a Fairlane 1st.
