Of course, if I had bought a Charger and it rusted out in 2 years, or if I had lost my virginity on the back seat of an Olds 4-4-2, my answer might be very different.

This begs the question...

If a pimply faced lad must lose his virginity in the back seat of any car, I suppose an Olds 442 is better than an Austin A-30 hey Graeme?

No car beats the '68 Charger R/T, the '57 T-bird ties with it.

Having the misfortune to be born the wrong side of the pond and having no personal ownership experience (performance, handling, comfort, refinement, interiors, build quality, rust, etc.) of any of the cars offered in these comparisons, for me it purely a matter of the styling comparison offered by the photos.

On that basis, the Charger wins by a mile. Several miles, actually.

LOL, aside from your last sentence leaving us with questions, I'm going to forsake asking them.

However, you made another comment in your first paragraph that really grabbed me.  You said, "in these comparisons, for me it is purely a matter of the styling comparisons offered from the photos", and that made me wonder why that wouldn't be the case with everyone that looks at the photos.  It sure is for me.

When I see the photos that John Bono shares each day, I only compare the look and styling of the two (or however many) cars he is asking us to choose from.  Now I may be the minority here (and if I am, I'm okay with it), but the first and foremost thing that I see is "a car" that encompasses the lines, the flow of the fenders, the taillights, the grills and headlights, the roof-line, and basically how appealing it looks.

Based on the photos, I don't care what kind of engine it had, how fast it went, or how it handled while driving it.  I'm only looking at the car.  So in todays example, I like the looks of the Oldsmobile far more than I do the Dodge.  And when John asks, "Which One?", my eyes tell me which "looks best to me".

Well, I'm like you. I look at the photos offered and base my preference on that (although I have to say that on occasion there is an unflattering pic of my preferred car, alongside another pic that makes a car I never really cared for look better than I remember it, so that can cloud the issue). But I made my comment because folks on this Forum quite often seem to state their preference on the basis of their personal experience of a car, or its good or bad reputation back in the day, or the emotional effect it had on them in their impressionable youth! Fair enough. I just happen to work on the basis of "here are images of two cars, which one do you find more appealing to look at here and now?".

@jack-dodds  To tell the truth it was an Austin 1100. In this very colour.

austin 1100

Rather more spacious in the back seat, although it proved regrettably easy to kick out one of the rear quarter lights at a critical moment.

Two beauties...going with the 442 for its ability to kick butt.

LOL!  You are an animal Mr. Ogg...pure and simple.  I'm so impressed that I'm sending you a burgundy robe ("G" on the breast pocket) straight from the Playboy Mansion gift shop (yes, they deliver to the GMT zone).  Mind you I must say that I'd have been more impressed if the interior dome light had been kicked out by your fraulein....

Not really. It was the logical result of vigorous limb movements in a confined space. (Mind you, we did tell the insurers it was caused by a meteorite strike).

You never know Steve; with Graeme being an international man of mystery and all, she may have been a German import.

In fairness to you Graeme....it probably felt like a meteorite strike.

Oh yes. In fact I enjoyed the cosmic experience so much I tried again. Then she said "Hey, three strikes and you're out"
