Regarding the comment about not liking the Tesla because of Elon Musk, that never entered in to my disdain for the car. It is simply an ugly, ugly machine.

I love the sound of ICE.@sizedoesmatter, I've had the chance to drive a few. They are incredibly quick and capable machines. It's a shame their virtues get lost in all the debate. I appreciate them, but I'm not sure I would buy one. I like the sound of my engine too much!
You can't say that in California !

What upsets me about electric vehicles is that my tax dollars have been used to subsidize the purchase of these vehicles. For the record, in 1966 I bought a 1910 Rauch and Lang electric car and nobody subsidized my purchase. Where's the fairness?
@bob-jackman I'm definitely NOT trying to start an argument but here's the flip side:
"Oil companies receive billions of dollars in tax breaks and subsidies, including deductions for drilling costs, special accounting rules, and tax credits, which critics argue provide billions in support each year. Examples of these include the ability to write off a significant portion of intangible drilling costs, tax credits, and lower royalty rates for using public resources. Organizations like the International Monetary Fund and various U.S. government watchdogs estimate these subsidies to be worth tens of billions of dollars annually."
These tax breaks are paid by other taxpayers. Tax breaks for oil companies and for electric vehicles are simply government policies via tax code.
@whodeytink In my mind that is not an apples to apples comparison. Consumers who choose to buy an electric car make that decision but I get no choice in the decision. I don't see the need to complicate the point.
