For several weeks I had been watching the listing for this model and I thought it might make an interesting project. In the midst of a bout of insomnia, I decided to buy it. It was listed as 'New' with slight damage to the hood that must have occurred before shipping from the factory, as the owner has stated the rest of the model is in excellent, new, condition. He even left the protective film on the roof 'glass,' when he took the photos for his listing. This is not an expensive model to begin with, and much less so with the damage, which is why I thought I might take a shot at doing a bit of body work and painting. I have a penchant for two-tone modern Rolls Royce models, anyway, so this might be fun.

The damage is stated as only being the dings to the bonnet, so there will be some prep work necessary to smooth this out. Of course, at this point, I am speculating on what I will need to do. The next pic is outlining the area I would want to repaint. I thought it might be best to tie in the new color with the interior, which is reflected in this photo, followed by a 'transparent' rendering to show the underlying areas I hope to cover:

Love both of these Rollers fellas, Congrats.
GDH, your salvation is saying that the model is not expensive and that the damage is not extensive. Looking at the hood (bonnet) it is a full repaint. I love your idea of a two tone. Careful masking is a job but not the most difficult one. Taking the car apart for a total paint can be, If willing to experiment for learning purposes, this will be fun and you have an entire menagerie waiting to watch the project unfold!

Oh, where oh where do I begin? 🤔 🤔
1) This must not be 1/18 scale because it's unfamiliar to me - I've never seen this one before.
2) I really love the 1:1 and have seen a few - they're very impressive cars! It's a RR coupe I'd like to own, but I would specify a large sunroof. The hell with that celestial galaxy of stars headliner!
3) Your proposed tu-tone paint treatment looks great; that a fine choice of body line separation of colors.
4) As you're undoubtedly aware, RR will apply any color, any shade, any finish (semi-gloss, matt, high gloss, etc... ) therefore, it's impossible for YOU to make a mistake. ANY color is perfect.
5) I suggest you work-up SEVERAL color mock-ups. Shades you haven't considered might surprise you. Of course, there' no law that says you must retain "black." Perhaps two variants of tan might work best, or dark maroon and light lavender, or ??? 🤔 🤨
6) Keep us in the loop, good luck, and have fun. Remember: If you don't like it, you can ALWAYS re-do it. 😉 😉

@perrone1 Yes, it was the inexpensive nature of my experiment that removed the trepidation and was replaced by anticipation. I am still working out what color to use, but I am still leaning toward the interior color, for continuity. Anything else may clash with one or the other. I sense I will spend much more time masking than I will painting, but I will undertake the task with diligence, for my 'rep' will be on the line.

I am still working out what color to use, but I am still leaning toward the interior cover, for continuity. Anything else may clash with one or the other. I sense I will spend much more time masking than I will painting, but I will undertake the task with diligence, for my 'rep' will be on the line.

1 - Uh oh... I should have looked again. It is 1/24, after all. The mind doesn't function as well, when sleep is an issue. I was purchasing it as a prop for an upcoming vignette that is in the offing. Perhaps some kind and understanding Administrator will relocate my post?
2 - The transparent roof is what helped me make up my mind. Love it and that is what the 1:1 has.
3 - I kind of thought that was the best area to cover, without necessitating a break down of the model.
4 - Yeah, isn't that cool? I went through all of the purple/lavender options with the .psd file I saved. I didn't try Maroon, yet.
5 - Yup. If I can paint it once I can paint it twice. I will post progress, when she arrives.

True. Prep work for MOST painting projects (car or otherwise ) most always takes longer than the actual painting. 😉

AAARRRGGGGGHHH! Supposedly, yes. I have moved several but today the edit post is allowing me into your post and thread but being stubborn not letting me move it. Let it marinade for a bit and I'll try again later.

@perrone1 I appreciate the effort you are expending to fix my hiccup and definitely sit back and take a deep breath when needed. It won't upset the earth's axis if it remains in the wrong forum for a day or so.
