The merc is real sharp 👍.  The Desoto is intriguing with the hidden (Cord-like) headlamps but not as sharp.

I too find the Mercury design more appealing than the DeSoto. I think that the hidden headlights are somewhat problematic.

Do I HAVE to choose one? To me, they're both butt-ugly cars!

As I don't ever do "Ties" in these, I give the edge for the MERCURY based on a better looking grille.  I would however take both in 1:24 scale if they were produced.

IMO virtually all 1942 cars are ugly. In this case, the Mercury is less ugly. I have several 1/43 DeSotos in my collection but not the Merc.

Not much love for the DeSoto, so I will vote for it. For me, the DeSoto is distinctive. The Mercury, not so much.

I pick the Mercury even though 42 wasn't its best year for styling.  I prefer the GM cars this model year by far.

Any '42 is a rarity in my 1:43 collection, so I like both!   I don't remember ever seeing such a Mercury;  time for someone to make it!  So the Mercury is my choice today.

Going with the DeSoto.....love the hide-away headlights.
