Oh John; you're at the top of your game here pal! Two of my favorite cars. Yet, two diverse styling exercises. Going into the fifties, the Streamliner hints at things to come. The Merc carries tales of the good old days and carries them with glorious class.

I'd love to own both. But if I can only have one, it would be the Indian Chieftan - the Pontiac.

Both are good looking cars, but to my eye, the Mercury looks a little "chunky" next to the sleeker Pontiac.

I'm also going with the sleek Pontiac.

Pontiac styling wins this comparison.

Wow, this is a tough one John.  I love the look of both cars yet they are so very different.  The roof line of the Mercury has always been a favorite of mine for the 1940s era but the nose of the Pontiac is much better looking.  It's  almost a tie but, as a life long Pontiac fan, I will vote for it.

I'd agree this is a tougher one for me this morning, as I'd take either in my driveway in a heartbeat.  For the craziest of reasons to choose a car, I chose the MERCURY today because of its COLOR.  I like yellow(ish) cars and it's solid over the entire car.  The Pontiac in that two-tone combo lost my vote.

It is amazing how we all have diverse opinions.  I like the Mercury.  Love the bubble roof and the grille which you cannot really see is just over the top.

I hate the Fastback on full-size cars.  The front half goes to the Pontiac while the back half goes to the Mercury, so it goes to the engine, V8, Mercury wins for my pick today.

'48 I would have bought:

'48 Dodge

OR

47 Chrysler Windsor

It is a '47 but consider it a left over, I believe the '48 is the same

I love both of these cars...today it's the Pontiac for its fastback styling.

Gents, thanks for the pics and responses.
