At this point, I think that Mercury was mechanically superior to Pontiac.

The 1950 Mercury (as did the previous years '49) pretty much blew away all their competition with an iconic styling that is timeless.  Comparing it to the '50 Pontiac is actually comparable to the old "apples and oranges" analogy.  The Pontiac, though very nice looking car in its own right, looks old and stodgy next to the Mercury.

The Mercury.  It was balanced and one of the finer expressions of the "rounded lines" school of styling.  The Pontiac was a logical extension of its earlier GM styling, but IMO resembled too much the Chevrolet with which it shared much of its body.

Tough choice.   I drooled over the Pontiac convertible when I was young and still do.

@georgeschire  I pick the Mercury by a small margin over the lovely Pontiac for the same reasons, George.

the Pontiac.....that toothy smile gets me every time.....in each instance I think we need to ask ourselves : "Which car would Roger Rabbit choose to drive?"

The Pontiac is nice, but in appearance, it can’t compare to the Mercury!
