'54 DeSoto or Mercury?

Another very close comparison...great selection John. I will go with the sleeker Mercury styling; the '53 is my fave Mercury of its decade and the '54 is not far behind.

Mercury by a mile. What a beauty, especially in that color, just like the Brooklin.

'54 Mercury is #3 for Mercury, # 2 is the '55 and #1 is the '56 and # 4 is the '61.
DeSoto does nothing for me until '56 to '58. Love the '57 with the single headlights. '55 had that toothy grin I don't care for.

One of the rare times that I have to VOTE TIE! I like the DeSoto for the incredible "toothy" grill and I like the Mercury for the beautiful "taillights". And in addition of these two characteristics, both cars for 1954 are styling masterpieces. Yup, it's a TIE!

One more comment about both cars. I think each is the best looking for '54 from each of their respective manufacturers.

The DeSoto is the one you take to the picture show, introduce to your mom and marry. The Merc, you take to the prom and show off to your friends and enemies; dumps you but leaves you with a smile!
What the hell - I've always made the 'right' choices - this time I'm going with the Merc!

Very close but I'm going with the Desoto for the grill. If the Mercury was a 49,50 or 51 it would probably have the DeSoto grill on it.

I prefer the sleek and sporty look of the Mercury, but the DeSoto is nice too.
