I drove both back in the early '60's and much preferred the Mercury ride & handling, not to mention the looks, I loved the Mercury.

I am going for the Oldsmobile but I would prefer a '98'.  It was 1955, I was age 4, and went car shopping with the parents.  I vividly remember that Oldsmobile dealership and parents bought two: a '98' Holiday two-door for him and a Starfire conv. for her.  Both matching turquoise and white.  Wonderful childhood road trip memories in these two cars.

Wow! That would have made for quite an impressive driveway display in 1955...the envy of the neighborhood for sure!

I'm voting for the Olds today...it's a tie for me, styling-wise, but I think the Oldsmobile had superior mechanicals and body/chassis construction.

They are both truly gorgeous 1950's American automobiles from the "big year" of 1955. It was a landmark year for Detroit (and also for music) and my family got a 1955 Pontiac and 1955 Chevrolet.

A closer call for me. But two different styling approaches. I like the formidable, broad-shouldered front-lineman look of the Olds. But I like the light-on-its-feet, wide-receiver look of the Merc. So, my decision got down ot the interiors. I prefer the dash of the Mercury, but I can see the point of those who like the Olds.

My vote goes to the Mercury.

Owned a ‘55 Super 88 for a short time in the 60s, loved it but sold it to a friend who needed it more.

I still like the ‘55 Oldsmobiles.
