Chevy for me too, although the Plymouth is tempting. After the 1957 Ford, to me the 1958 loses the plot.

Chevrolet lost me in 1958. Plymouth looked good but that forward look cost in quality, body flex and poor handling. That leaves the Ford which won Car of the Year at the Brussels World Fair that year.

I've been rethinking the '58 Ford recently. I'm not ready to call it my favorite. But, once I saw the echoes of the new T-Bird in the front clip and taillights, I gained a new appreciation for the family aspect of the design. For now, my vote goes to the Chevy, then the Ford.

Chevy is an easy choice for my favorite for both style and quality. The Ford is #2 and the Plymouth is #3 because of it's poor quality.

'58 Impala 2 dr ht I love, the rest of the '58 Chevy line up I dislike. The Ford best model Fairlane 500 was nothing special but the cheaper more stripped down models the Ford looked MUCH better than the Chevy or the Plymouth. 

Begrudgingly a rare vote for Chevy!

Purely on style Plymouth is No 1 for me. Chevy second.

I had an uncle and aunt who emigrated from Scotland to California and bought a '58 Ford. As a kid I thought it looked great at the time but have come round to the view that maybe it was a slightly heavy-handed facelift of the '57, which looks cleaner and "purer" in retrospect.

The beautiful and very different Chevy wins this time.  The lovely Ford is a strong second and the Plymouth third.

1) Chevrolet  2) Ford  3) Plymouth  I could have easily went with the Ford as #1 here, but against the Chevy, it was an easy choice.  I think the '58 Chevy is the most beautiful Chevy of the fifties. 

With regard to the Ford, I thought it too, was a home run in the styling department.  I liked the styling from grill to taillights.  And certainly (to my eyes), it was way better than the '57 before it and the '59 after it. 

Which brings me to the Plymouth.  I'll just sum it up this way, "Ho-hum".  Nuff' said.

So many interesting and knowledgeable comments to take-in. I've always loved the '58 Chevrolet and am constantly impressed at how harmonious the design is, when there's so much going on. Separately, I love all post '57 Chrysler offerings, except the Plymouths and yet they look so clean? I have never understood late '50s Ford offerings, (excluding Mercury & Lincoln) so, again, I read the comments here with great interest.

You are correct Ed, but what a 1959 Ford was doing at a Fair that closed in mid-October 1958 beats me. I actually attended that Brussels Fair but did not take note of Ford entries at the time although a number of cars were displayed in the pavilions.

I would assume that the '59 Ford in Brussels was available for sale in late September of '58, as per North American dealership showrooms.
