I like both but give the nod to the Pontiac for what I perceive as its cleaner lines and therefore better styling.
Despite different brands, they seem to follow a similar style philosophy. I’m going with a tie.
I like both a lot. MERCURY in my opinion was the beauty of the '59 FoMoCo line-up and everyone here knows of my love of the GM '59 line-up. So this one for me friends is a TIE!

Pontiac gets my vote, I never warmed up to the 59 Merc.

Pontiac gets my vote, I never warmed up to the 59 Merc although an improvement over the 57 and 58.

Wide Track has the edge.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Two great choices, but as much as I really like the Pontiac, I got to go with the Mercury. The Mercury is definitely a much busier style, but that just gives it character.

The sleek lines of the Pontiac, make this a winner.
59 Pontiac was always my favorite Pontiac of the 50s
For me it's the "Wide Track" Bonneville by a mile.

Pontiac wins by a country mile; I love it. The '59 is the worst looking Merc ever made IMHO.
