Never cared for Avanti, but did love this T-Bird.

Wow John you got me where it hurts. Over the years I have restored both a 63 Avanti and 63 Thunderbird Sports Roadster. The Thunderbird I still have while the Avanti was sold eight years ago to make room in my shop for another project. The two cars were vastly different in their purpose...the Avanti was truly a great handling nimble car for the times while the Thunderbird is personal luxury. The technology in the build of these cars is completely different in that the Avanti is a fiberglass body on frame while the Thunderbird is a steel unibody. The Thunderbird weighs close to a ton more than the Avanti. I love both equally but for different reasons.

thank you Bob.....for such a qualified comparison......I owned a 63 T-bird for a few years and always lusted for the Avanti clad in some sort of exotic wild animal skins......

Tough choice but going with the Tbird.  The Avanti is attractive in its unique way. 👍😎

Avanti please.  I never cared for the '61 - '63 T-bird styling, loved the '60 & '64.Never cared for the Avantis styling either but it's uniqueness & handling got my vote.

Great comparison Bob, thanks for pointing out all what's different about them.

I love them both but give a nod to the Avanti for its bold styling statement and beautifully designed interior.

What a great comparison John !

Thnx, Steve

Oh, and BTW, for me it's the round headlight design, nothing else !

THUNDERBIRD!  Even though I'm not a fan of this body style for the T-Bird, it is hands down better looking than the completely odd looking Avanti.  I mean, it's just odd looking!

LOL, amazing how we can both see the Avanti in such a different way.  You call it a "knockout" and to my eyes, it's a car that I would walk on the other side of a street to avoid even being close to it.  AMERICA!

Both cars are standouts, that's what they have in common. The Avanti with its sportier edge does it for me.
