For me; an impossible task. Best scenario, I own them both. If I feel a little flamboyant and want to be seen, I take the '57 to a car show and gloat. If I just want to take a nice drive in the country, I'll take the more sedate '56.
Have to pick just one?? Oh man, John, you taskmaster you! I'll pick the '56 please!
1956. My favorite American car of the 1950s.Great grille and fins.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Another vote for the 56 but I like both.
Both are very nice, but fins will always win. 1957 please. 😎 😎
I love the '55 and '5; they are gorgeous looking cars. The gaping grille of the following three years doesn't appeal.
'56 please. The next Chrysler I like is the '62. '57 I would have bought the DeSoto.
Oh boy, a tough one today! I like both tons, but for different reasons. If push comes to shove however, I will choose the '57 as I think it's the nicest looking '57 from any of the Big Three for that year, and yes, even better than the Oldsmobile which is my favorite fifties Olds.
Now having said that, if you were to put up the '56 Chrysler head-to-head with a '56 Oldsmobile, as much as I like the Chrysler, the Olds would win. One thing for sure regarding your "Which One?" today, it exemplifies how cars could change from one year to the next.

I went with a tie. Both designs are simply perfect to me. My mom had a 57 New Yorker Sport Coupe.
Both great but the '56 looks more "substantial" to me and gets my voted.

I like them both, but I'm going to go with the '57, it has a more "in your face" appeal.

Tough call! Today it's the '57...tomorrow?
