63. I think they got it right right away.

All beautiful, very close to a tie. But I agree they got it right straight out of the gate.

The '63 for me too! The '64 has its tailights in the bumper and I don't like that style.

An inspired comparison! I'm going with the '65. It was Bill Mitchell's original design, but the bean counters at GM nixed the hidden headlights as they were more expensive, and no one was really sure if the car would sell well. After two very successful years, Mitchell got his way.

I expected to vote for the 1965 because it's so clean. I guess this really was a tie, even though I voted 1963.

I like them all but the 1965 is a slightly cleaner look with the headlight treatment.
I love them all but prefer the smaller differences of the original '63.

That didn't happen til the '65.

I voted for the '64 for one minor reason not visible in these pictures. The '63 spelled out B U I C K in block letters across the trunk lid while the '64 had a "Riviera" script in the right corner.
Kind of identifying the Riviera as something "special" (no pun intended) within the Buick lineup.

@moe-parr Barry, I agree with you. While the difference is small, it's still a neat detail.
Most are aware that the original design from GM was labeled "LaSalle II" with the concept being called the "XP-715" and was intended for Cadillac. Cadillac was concerned about diluting its image and passed on it. Buick was waiting in the wings.

Thank-you for correcting me.
I was going to research before posting my comment but I thought I was right.
Now I'd choose the '64 for the same reason you did. I didn't care for the '65s taillghts and /or the hidden headlights. Sure, it was a clean design as stated by others but not for me.
Steve
I voted for the first and original '63. I will forever be ga-ga over that design. Of course the other two are nice too.

I couldn't resist this at yesterday's model show.... a nice '65 Riviera by Welly. I fell in love instantly and was unaware that it had ever been made !!
It cost me a whole whopping price of $10.
