I'll go with wacky spaceship '57. The other two tie.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
The '56 wins by a nose over the '55 for trim and 2-tone application; '57 is a very distant third.
Basically a tie for the '55 & '56, I'd take either. In these color choices, the 56, then 55 with the '57 coming up very close behind in third.

My first pick is the 1957, a risky redesign of a very pleasant shape used in 1955 and 1956 Montclairs. Love that bold redesign of the back window and the opening feature.
1957 first, with the 1955 and 1956 tied. All are worth owning and cherishing.
It isn't often that I'll give in and vote TIE. But with this one, I have to. I am a huge fan of Mercury's from 1954 through 1960. And even more so from '57 through '60 when Mercury wasn't a look-a-like Ford. The '57 is way out there in styling, but for that model year, Mercury was simply nothing like any other car from the Big Three, and that is what made me like it. Of the years I just mentioned as being favorites, it was the '60 that I thought was drop-dead gorgeous and the best looking American car that year. Chrysler Corp. was still busy putting fins to the moon on their cars and Ford Motor Co. cars were bland in appearance to my eyes for '60. And GM really dropped the ball after their outstanding '59's and gave us a very dull and boring '60 line-up. So that left me with MERCURY THAT YEAR.

My favorite Mercury the '56. Would be tie with the '55 but '55 has 6 volt electrical system and I prefer the trim on the '56.
My rating on Mercury of the '50's; 56, 55, 54, 53, [hay George, here is where I would place the '60 when compared to the '50's cars for styling] 59, 51, 52, 50, 57 & 58 tie for last.
For styling I have a tie for my favorite the '56 & the '61. Least liked '57 to '60.
Speaking of Mercury:
Car pooled with an older gentleman who owned a new '76 Marquis. I got to drive it a couple of times. It was the quietest, best riding for smoothest ride, like riding on a cloud [what ever that is like] and I even liked the boxy styling. Handling = big boat. Performance, not much. You want to fall asleep while driving on an interstate, it could do it easily.
While not Jakes car, but same make model & color.
