@sizedoesmatter Actually I quite like the look of the '55 thru '57 Fords very much; including the IMO dated bezel feature. I like the '56 and '57 Fords a bit better than the Chevrolet in fact.
Chevy, Ford, Plymouth. The Ford looses by it's dash, otherwise a tie. The '55 Chevy is the best Chevy of the '50's. While the best Ford of the '50's is the '56, better than the '55 by a dashboard.
Looking at the pics it is apparent the steering wheel on the '56 looks quite a bit better as well as the dash. 3 spoke over 2 spoke. Same thing I discovered with ownership the '66 Coronet is 2 spoke and the '67 is 3 spoke which I much prefer.
Bruce, the three spoke, deep dish recessed design was part of Ford's safety campaign for 1956. It was standard equipment that year. A padded dash and seatbelts were optional. My dad ordered the padded dash on our '56 Fairlane Town Sedan. These dashs where known to sag over time. Ours remained intact when we traded the car in '61.
Plain & simple & uncluttered my favorite dash/instrument cluster '69 - '70 ['68 didn't offer the wood grain] Dodge Rally Instrument Cluster, standard in the Charger '68 to '70 and the Super Bee, optional on the R/T Coronets.
