The Mercury has a number of features, such as that rear window, that make it more desirable to me.
I find the Ford styling very appealing; far more than the Mercury of this era.
As much as I find the Ford cleaner, I voted Mercury because it's so crazy. An hour later I might have voted differently.

This one came as a total surprise to me. I've always seen the Mercury design as disjointed and rife with gadgets. But, over the years, the more I look at the Ford, the more plain and uneventful it seems to be. The beautiful, multi-dimensional grilles of '55 and '56 gave way to a flat grille. The roofline, while being delicate and thin, is a simple arc that meets the shoulder line and rocker line uneventfully. The two-toning is imaginative...kinda. Looking at the Mercury, line-wise, it's a disaster, but it is intriguing and polarizing. Your eye keeps moving through the design and soaking up the details, stopping here and stopping there. I voted for the Merc,

Much prefer the clean and uncluttered lines of the 57 Ford…always one of my favorites
also the Mercury is a Turnpike Cruiser a luxury model where as the ford looks to be a standard Fairlane model.
To me it's like Bourbon vs. Scotch...both whiskeys, but so many more flavors going on in your mouth with Bourbon!
I voted for the Mercury - it's the Bourbon vs. the Scotch (Ford).

How loud can I shout MERCURY! It is so far out there, that owning it and driving it would be totally riveting. It really came down to this, if you wanted to blend in to the landscape and not be noticed, drive the Ford. But if you wanted to make a statement, be noticed, and be the talk of the town, it's the MERCURY man!

Good comments both ways but I am in the cleaner, sharper camp of the Ford.

Mercury for me. I just like it better. The Ford fins looked too extreme, even for 1957.
Ford for me. I like the Mercury, but the simpler lines of the Ford's styling appeal to me.

To me, the Ford is a beautiful design which contributed to it out selling the Chevy in 1957. Having said that while I really like the Ford, the over the top Mercury always makes me smile as a true example of fifites in America.
