This is something you don't see every day, a 1961 DeSoto 4-door hardtop. For the 1961 model year all series nomenclature was dropped. You either got a 2-door DeSoto or a 4-door DeSoto, that's it. Nothing else. Period. DeSoto ceased production on November 30, 1960, 47 days after 1961 model production began. Just 911 two-doors and 2,123 four-doors were built, making this one rare survivor. The back seat area is filled with stuff, as is part of the front seat. I would see this DeSoto frequently, always parked in the same spot in front of the park. Not long after I took this picture, the car disappeared. I would love to know what happened to it.
Looks like it was driven there and then, probably, driven away. Being in running condition is sure promising.
What Tony said! Great series...keep them coming Pete.Looks like it was driven there and then, probably, driven away. Being in running condition is sure promising.

Thanks Pete. I too am enjoying this series. The DeSoto was another fine nameplate lost to history.
Like Tony said, it's running and drivable. Either they keep the whitewalls clean or it's got fairly new tires as well. The body looks solid also.
Last of the line that I now miss. I had forgotten just how huge those tail fins looked.
I hope it is being restored; it looks good enough to deserve such treatment.
I'm keeping my eye out for it at local car shows. Nothing so far...
Glad you guys are enjoying this series. I've got lots of material!
