Oldsmobile for me. Not stodgy like the Buick.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I love the Buick. It's of the Classic era style-wise. The Olds is advancing sooner, to the look of the future and for this comparo I'm going Old, ah, I mean Olds.
I am not a fan of either, but I will give the nudge to the Buick for the grille.
Like both but like John, the grill takes it. Buick
Not fond of either, but to me the Olds looks much nicer.
The Buick is over done, bullets/bumperettes/dagmars [what are they actually called?] are too big and stick out too far; don't care for the body line on the side that drops down just behind the door and the jumps up to rear deck, I call it a big check mark running down the side of the car. And the portholes on the side look ridiculous to me. The main reasons I don't care for Buicks. And don't forget the sound of their straight eight engine with the Dina-flow trans with louder exhaust sounded like a giant vacuum cleaner, at least the 3 or 4 early '50's models in my neighborhood all had that sound I did not like, HENSE to this day I dislike Buicks in general.
What beautiful early Fifties automobiles from G.M. ! The General was really hitting on all cylinders at this time and even more gorgeous vehicles were on the way. A truly magical time for car lovers and the various designs and engineering that emerged on a regular basis nearly every year was remarkable.
Going with the Buick. 😎

Today it's the Oldsmobile because of its drive train.
Gents, Thanks for your responses.

I love the sophistication of the Olds but have family history with the Buick. It gets the nostalgia vote today.

Being an old coot who was around when these cars were new, I clearly remember these early Olds overhead valve V8s. You didn't need to turn around to know it was an Olds by the clicking lifter noise. This was such a major complaint when owners brought their cars in for service, the fix was replacing the lifters with Cadillac lifters which had two holes which provided better oiling. While the two motors were not the same, it was a coincidence that the lifters were interchangeable.
