I'm voting for the Mercury. The Ford's decoration is a bit much, and I find the treatment of the headlight bezels discordant. The Mercury looks substantial and not too 'chromey'.
Well John, you've done it again making a decision very difficult. The Mercury is a striking car in every way but I think the Ford is just more sporty. I was 15 years old when these cars were built and it was a time in America when most were looking for sporty and fun colors. Ford for me but either would fit nicely in my garage.
I like both. But in this instance, I like the MERCRUY better.
Ironically, if you offered each as '56's, I'd vote for the Ford. The '55 Mercury is just crazy over the top good-looking. While the following year, Ford with the tweaks that were made to it, to my eyes was then better than the '56 Mercury.

Merc this go 'round. Dislike both with the continental kits though.
Tony, you and I will ALWAYS be in agreement regarding continental kits. With but the rarest of exceptions they were okay, and I do mean rare! I always wondered, even as a kid, why do people want to make their cars look so ugly. The extended bumpers were half the problem, they just never added anything to the styling of a car.

Totally agree George. Very rare for me as well. I will always love the 'Conny kit' of the MK II:
It's integral to the design of the entire car and does not appear as an 'add-on'. Of; if incorporated into the design element of the rear of the vehicle it is nice. No extended shelf. Fit between the rear of the rear fenders - as with the '41 Continental:

Agreed. As I said, "with but the rarest exceptions they were okay".
