PACKARD!  If the Imperial didn't have those phony "gee we forgot to put taillights" on it, I could have been tempted to vote for it.  I said "could have", but when I say that, it's highly probable I'd still go with the Packard.  To my eyes, the '56 Packard, '56 Lincoln, and '56 Cadillac were the most beautiful of all American cars for that year.

Oh this is tough, but the Packard wins with its handsome style.

While I enjoy the Imperial's rather wild flair, the Packard is one of the standards by which I judge any of the great cars.

Both are very nice cars but for me it's Imperial styling by a fair margin.

Too close to call! This is one of those occasions when I have to invoke my rule - ties go to the Mopar!

Hands down, it's the Imperial that I choose.

Both are very appealing but will go with the Imperial. The split grill, open rear wheel well and moderate fins combine to look great to my eye.

Imperial but then, I'm prejudiced.

I think my problem with the Imperial is IMO the 300B uses the styling elements better. Of course I know they're pitched to different customers.

@georgeschire George, Your comments regarding the tail lights on the Imperial are interesting. When I take my 55 Imperial to a car show, the first thing people comment on are the tail lights and how they like them. We all see things differently

Bob, I've no doubt that the Imperial's taillights are a conversation piece.  Though I can't speak for others, with me it's that when the car was new back in the day, I always thought the taillights looked like an after thought.  Oh my gosh, we forgot to put taillights on the car...oh well, just tack them on the fenders.  But today, they are certainly different and many will find them interesting.  All this said, I think the Imperial (and its Chrysler sister) for '55 and '56 are extremely beautiful cars.
