Hard choice this morning. Both are great looking. I went with the DeSoto just for the tail.
Would have been a tie but I went with the DeSoto because of the wheels which are like those on my 55 Imperial.
Those added on headlight pods make the Mercury look strange to me…I like the DeSoto better.

I like the DeSoto more, my father’s friend had one. The Merc always seemed strange to me but is still pretty cool. 😎👍

The added on headlight pods seem to make more sense on the Turnpike Cruiser, with the matching add-ons at the windscreen corners, plus the overall boxiness. But here, on the lighter looking convertible, they seem too heavy.
The Forward Look DeSoto. No contest.
DeSoto for me too. It just looks so much more cohesive.

MERCURY No Contest! Now had it been Mercury against the '57 Chrysler 300, I'd have voted Chrysler in a heartbeat. But sorry to you DeSoto lovers, it is just too odd looking with that grille. The other reason I like the Mercury is that it was a style of its own, completely different from both Ford and Lincoln. It delivered a different message over any other car for '57 from the Big Three.

No contest, DeSoto. '57 my favorite DeSoto, liked the '55 - '58, disliked the '59 - '61. Mercury LOVED the '53 to '56, disliked the '57 to '60, loved the '61.
Yes. Actually I think it's the add-on sidelights (running lights) perched on top of the headlights that make the Merc look too fussy and over-detailed at the front. Get rid of them, I say. Those added on headlight pods make the Mercury look strange to me…I like the DeSoto better.
Of course, now the front maybe looks too "soft" compared with the angular back end. Ah well, I just thought I'd give it a go.

The De-Lovely, Delightful DeSoto is my pick.

Desoto is much more attractive; never cared for this era of Mercury.
