'58 Buick or Chrysler?

The '58 Chrysler stands out to me as the #1 most egregious example of "change for the sake of change" making things worse.
The stylists ruined these fabulous taillights:
by turning them into this shrunken mess:
WHY OH WHY??
Regardless of how much I dislike the '58 Chrysler because of that, I still like it more than the '58 Buick.

I like them both, although they certainly have different design philosophies. 1958 was a recession year in the US, but my family got a 1958 Chevrolet and our neighbors on one side had a 1958 Pontiac and on the other side they had a new 1958 Oldsmobile.
I have a 1/18 Ertl diecast replica of the beautiful 1958 Impala now days in my collection and I had a prized promo model of that style car as a kid, too. I have several of the 1/18 SunStar 1958 Buicks in both coupe and top-down convertible style.

You ask the same question I've always asked. Why did Chrysler ruin those incredibly beautiful '57 taillights? And I think you nailed with your comment, "Change for the sake of change". I think they could have done almost anything else with the styling and it would have been accepted so much better than shrinking those taillights.
Sadly, this was enough for me to choose the Buick over the Chrysler today. And being honest, I do like the '58 Buick a lot, as I've often said (though I'm in the minority with my opinion on this), GM's '58 brand line-up was gorgeous!

@georgeschire I’m with George 100% on this one, Buick is period perfect and flamboyant, Chrysler is flat-out boring to me!

I mirror Bob J.s comment...Chrysler. Both of these cars do have a place at car shows though, in spite of their issues.

I like them both but the Buick is very dated. Even with the taillights in the Chrysler, it’s the best looking and far more modern.

The Chrysler resembles most of the '57 - '59 cars put out by the Chrysler Corp...nothing special about it.
The Buick standouts in the crowd. It screams high end luxury.
