Very few cars make a statement like that Cadillac. It wins.

I had the good fortune years ago to ride in a friend's black Series 62, top down, after a fresh snow in Saugatuck, MI.

What a memory!

Neither of these are favorites of mine but I vote for the Cadillac by the smallest of margins.

The Caddy is nice, but the Imperial to me just looks more elegant.

Fifty-Nine was the epitome of 'over-the-top' automotive styling. And both these cars express the pinnacle of that mind set. Both have stylized 'eyebrow metal' over quad headlights. Both have huge tailfins accented with bullet taillights sprouting out of them. Elegant ride and sumptuous interiors, both at the top of their corporations.

It's a veritable toss-up. I'm down with the iconic Caddy for now. Tomorrow; who knows?

Even though I prefer the Imperial, I voted Cadillac today because back in '59, the Cadillac was fresh, bold, all-new and exciting while the Imperial was not much different from the '57/'58.

Just too much sheet metal for my taste. Simpler and smaller would better suit me.

John I THINK that you are showing the '58 Imperial; but I'm no expert.  I think this is the '59??

Both cars were not particularly attractive IMHO.  I much prefer the shoulder years for each one.  I give them a tie today.

Nothing is more American, nor more 1959 than that Caddy!

I like GM's '59 line-up, with the exception of the Cadillac.  It is just "way to out there" for me.  As for the Imperial, it looks pieced together by a committee.  Everyone in the Board got to put something on it, and the result is "a mess".  I voted "No Interest".  Both cars are over the top of excess and unattractive as well.

Yes Jack, a '58 for sure. I replaced it with a '59.

Thank you!

I am not a fan of luxury cars to start with and these two are the epitome of luxury cars.  I have no interest in either one today.

'59 I would have bought:

59 Coronet (2)
59 Coronet (1)
59 Coronet (3)
