I like the look of the '59 Edsel best of its 3 year run but LOVE the styling of the Ford.
The Edsel was still a quite distinctive automobile with it's unmistakable grille and the Ford was sporting a kind of "squared-off" yet good-looking styling. Both are good-lookers, but the 1960 year would see some definite styling sleekness from Ford ......and Edsel, in it's last year, becoming a styling clone of the big Ford, yet still attractive to me.
So sad that the Edsel went from a beautiful and distinctive styling look in '58 to the stripped down, bland, and boring '59. Of course it was all but Edsel's swan song, so it didn't matter, even though it was a little more exciting appearance wise for 1960's short cameo.
I VOTE FORD for '59.

I voted no interest. Don't like either one. Would rather have the Buick or the Chevrolet in1959.
Not a supporter of either. I'll vote Ford since it is less put-offish than the Edsel.
Ford for me. I like its clean style. I could do without the aftermarket Dagmars though.

Ford for me as well. Dad had a black/white ht. when I was a kid. I always liked it.😊
In 1957 Ford built a beautiful, clean well balanced car. In 1958 they decided to change everything for the sake of changing everything and the result was a design that was full of gimmicks. In 59 they came back somewhat to the same design details of the 57 except they made the grill look cheap and added detail on the rear fenders which to my eye was unnecessary. Having said that, neither of these cars are ones that I would crave to have in my garage. Picking one, I would pick the Edsel just for the fun of explaining it to visitors at a car show.

I like all you points and agree. Only one I differ on is your comments about the '58 Ford. Of the '57, '58, '59 Fords, I like the '58 styling the best. Reason being, it was different than the other two with its grill and rear-end. Of the three, I'd take the '58.

@georgeschire George of the three years, I like the 58 too but the 57 was just a pure design it has to be number one of these three.
@bob-jackman I agree that the '57 was by far the best looking of the model years '57 to '59 but I like all three years very much. The '56 Fairlane Victoria HT is the best looking Ford of its decade IMHO.
I like them both. The Edsel was nicely styled too bad they couldn’t make a better grill. I can’t explain it but there are certain Fords I have always liked the 59 is one of them. The retractable top maybe the reason even though it was introduced earlier than 59. I must have at least 10 1/43 rd 1959 Fords. 5 just purchased from Goldvarg. Always wished Danbury or Franklin would have made one. I could do without the skirts.
