Terrific comparison John. Very close for me but from the first time I saw the Firebird in 1967, I loved it especially the 400 with the hood scoops. Pontiac.
For me it's the Cougar. It looks more like an adult car. I like both, but its style wins it.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I've always loved Cougar's but the '67 wasn't my favorite among them. The '67 year for the Firebird is different - LOVE it and it gets my vote today!
Like both, but the Cougar wins out today, despite those goofy hidden headlights. The Firebird is too small for my 16 year old taste back then and still would be today.

Cougar by a couple of miles. Liked the '67 - '68 Cougars, only. Never cared for the Pontiac or Chevy pony cars with the one exception and it was a '69 Camaro RS. Did like the '77 - '78 Smokey & the Bandit Trans Am though I would not consider buying one [didn't like them that much]. Not a fan of pony cars in general, hood too long, trunk too short, and too little room in the interior, would not buy one [I lied I would buy ONE '70 Challenger T/A only].
I owned a '67 Firebird and a '68 Cougar and loved them both, but the styling of the Cougar, inside and out gives it the marginal edge.
Oh boy! Tough choice as I really like both. I am going with the Firebird on this occasion.
Cougar for me. I think it was a bigger step-up in styling and luxury over the Mustang than the Firebird was over the Camaro.

@moe-parr I agree Barry and as I recall the Cougar was marketed that way in '67; especially the XR7.
My younger brother bought a ‘67 Cougar and it’s been sitting untouched in his garage since the 1980’s
Makes my crazy…it still gets my vote.
