Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Olds, Vette. The Corvette would be my first choice to own. But since it is essentially the same as the previoous year, sans the washboard hood and twin spear trunk lid, the others one-up it for importance.

I’m only interested in three from this 1959 lineup. Corvette, Pontiac and Oldsmobile in that order.

I am not really interested in any of GM models in 59, but if I had to pick it would be this way.  Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Corvette.  I only picked the Buick first because I like the nose with the slanted headlights.

Buick, Olds, Pontiac and Cadillac. Like Tony, The Vette is the one I would like to own but IMO it doesn't belong in this group.

@carsman1958 Corvette, Pontiac, Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, Olds. Hey Tony, I think I’m one of a handful of people that prefer the overdone ‘58 Vette!

1) BUICK  2) OLDSMOBILE  3) PONTIAC  4) CHEVROLET  5) CADILLAC

This has been discussed often with different opinions shared.  For me, the GM '59 line-up of cars was one of their most successful styling years.  Each brand had an identity to it and boasted that they'd left any stodgy looking  mid-fifties or forties car behind them.  They were space age designed that shouted future very loudly.

And as always, I'll accept that I'm in the minority with not even considering the Corvette a car and certainly not one that belongs with this elite group.  Sorry.

Buick first. It's the most coherent bit of styling, front-to-rear. Pontiac is a close second. The bat-wing Chevy got a great deal of attention (including mine) but in hindsight the front and rear seem oddly mismatched so it's in 3rd place. The Olds is more understated but pleasant enough, so it comes 4th. The Cadillac has become an "icon" of the era,  but the front end looks a bit old-style GM "bulbous" compared with the others. I'm in the minority with George in not really caring that much for the Corvette (although I'm sure it was great fun) and it doesn't really fit in here anyway.

'57 loved GM's styling, great; Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Chevrolet

'58 GM's styling, few all right; Cadillac, Pontiac, Chevrolet

'59 GM's styling, only one worth considering; Pontiac

'60 GM's styling, better than '58 or '59, but not great; Buick, Pontiac, Chevrolet

If it is not listed above I just don't like the styling at all.

'59 is my all-time favorite Pontiac and easily wins today's comparison for me!

@georgeschire

The story of how the 1959 line-up came to be is fascinating.

Harley Earl was in Europe when his 59s were ready to be approved. Given Chrysler Co's 1957 shockingly advanced styling, Bill Mitchell and the styling staff crash styled these 1959s.

Harley returned from Europe and never said a word, which was highly unusual. And, of course, he retired in 1959.

P.S. The book Fins is a fantastic bio of Earl and GM.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
