When Cadillac really was The Standard of the World.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too.

@ed-glorius Happy St. Pats’ back at ya! The Cadillac is, to my minds eye, one of the most beautifully styled and well proportioned automobiles of all time. Absolutely my favorite Cadillac, just perfect! I personally don’t care for any Packard made after the 1930’s, and those were gorgeous cars IMO, and I don’t mean any disrespect to those of you who like them.
This Cadillac (and the '48 of course) was a design well ahead of the pack; just a gorgeous looking car. The bathtub Packard doesn't even come close.
@jack-dodds I agree Jack, the ‘48 was a style leader, but being the nit-picker that I am, I think Cadillac stylists made the ‘49 even prettier by re-doing the grill (look how the edges of the grill flow around to the sides of the fenders, brilliant!), and cleaning up the taillight trim. OK, those are small nits, but the huge deal is the ohv V8 for 1949. Made a spectacular car pretty much perfect!
@kevins I made the same observations re: '48 vs.'49 and agree with your opinion Kevin.
HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY! My vote goes to the CADILLAC!
The styling was the beginning of what we were treated to leading up to 1956 when it became the most beautifully styled car of the Fifties. Nothing said you'd arrived better than a '56 Cadillac!

St. Paddy, himself, would say that the two cars are not comparable. One, an iconic automotive pillar of design, function and beauty should never be compared with a bath tub. Well, OK, what DOES the fervent St. Paddy know about automotive matters?
The Packard is a beautiful car in it's own right but lacks the panache that is the Cadillac. It also lacks those to-die-for wheels. CADDY for St. Paddy!!
Over the years I have begun to like these Packards but certainly not as much as the beautiful Cadillac. While the wire wheels look great on the Caddy, they were not available until the El Dorado in 1953 or the Caribbean also in 1953. I have always liked green cars and yet I don't own one to drive today on St. Paddy's day.
I love both, tie for me.😁 Happy Paddys all.🍀
Cadillac! What a step forward for design. I understand Packard and Cadillac were standard luxury at that time but it almost feels unfair to the Packard.
Sorry guys. Packard all the way for me.
Packard for me too. This one is a beauty.
I like the early Packards, but not this series, so Cadillac takes it for me.
As much as I love the Cadillac, I just can't get past the beautiful design I see in the Packard, so Packard for me by a slight edge.
