Of course I'm prejudiced so the Imperial is my pick although I like the Packard very much.
Packard may have been on the way out but it still was a solid reliable comfortable vehicle which I still preferred at that point to the Imperial.
Like both, but Imperial wins for me.

Tough choice for sure, the Imperial is a great car. But a slight edge to the Packard. But that is today. If I was back in 1955, the issues Packard was having and its merger w/Studebaker might have tainted my decision. To my eyes, the Imperial still looks a bit dated while the Packard is crisp and clean, but Chrysler's stronger image might have won out then.

Packard's last-ditch effort was praiseworthy, but the Imperial was more modern looking with its much lower hood and fender lines. Both cars have distinctive taillights, Cathedral on the Packard vs. Gunsight on the Imperial. But all things considered, the Imperial wins for me.

Now this is a tough one. I like both cars for various reasons. When push comes to shove though, I tilt towards the PACKARD. Looking at them side-by-side the Imperial looks old and dated. Sadly it isn't old and dated at all, but with the Packard's more modern styling, the Imperial fails in comparison.
Some here have mentioned the troubles Packard was facing, but I respectfully add that Chrysler continually struggled with what they wanted the Imperial to be and how they handled its placement in their marque roster as a luxury car. Chrysler tried to place Imperial as direct competitor to Ford's, Lincoln and to GM's Cadillac. In my opinion, at this point in history it was PACKARD that was more the competitor to both those cars and Imperial too.
However all the above shared, if I'm choosing just on looks, PACKARD wins!
